MGM+ Releases a Terrifying Supernatural Trailer for ‘The Institute’
The MGM+ series The Institute, based on the 2019 novel of the same name, has gotten a first look with the release of a trailer. In 2019, the Stephen King novel was announced to have a television series adaptation in the works, created by MGM+.
The First Look
The first trailer sees gifted children being abducted and taken to The Institute, where they are subjected to torturous experiments. Each tortured child has a special ability of telekinesis. The main character, Luke Ellis, a genius teen, finds himself looking to escape the torture of The Institute and its evil director, Ms. Sigsby. As clips of the tortured kids flash throughout the trailer, a voiceover of Ms. Sigsby says, “You’re not kids, not here. There’s no bedtime, there’s no chores. But here, if you break a rule, there are grown-up consequences.” The trailer leaves viewers with questions about whether the children will be able to escape The Institute.

Kelley set to write the script for the series, Jack Bender to direct, and Spyglass Studios to produce. This was the last announcement for the series until 2024, when it was revealed that a new production had started. Bender is still a part of the project, but it was announced that Benjamin Cavell would be writing the scripts, along with MGM+ Studios producing. In an interview with Variety, Cavell revealed that The Institute’s characters are connected to the rest of King’s universe because all of the children have a version of “The Shine,” the psychic ability from The Shining. Season 1 will consist of 8 episodes.
