‘F1’ on Pace for Success in Box Offices

Apple's Biggest Theatrical Debut

F1 zoomed into theaters last weekend. According to Variety, Apple’s big-budget racing movie made $144 million globally last weekend. This is Apple’s biggest theatrical debut, marking a huge milestone for the tech giant. It still has a way to go to be profitable. However, it is on pace to be profitable for Apple.

Fast Cars and Fast Cash

$144 million is no easy feat for Apple. According to Variety, Apple has a history of big box office failures. Variety reported, “F1 marks the first commercial win for Apple, which has previously backed underperforming big screen offerings like Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, and Argylle.” This shows that not only does Apple struggle to make hits, but it also highlights how important F1’s success is for the company. A big part of the movie’s success is how it performed in the US and Canada. Variety reported that the movie made $55.6 million in the US and Canada alone. The film made the rest of its $144 million internationally. The movie still has a long way to go before it is successful. Dextero reported, “The exact budget for F1 hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s believed to be anywhere between $200 million to $300 million.” Breaking even doesn’t mean a financial victory for Apple. While the box office debut is a good start, it has to finish strong for Apple to call the movie a success.

‘F1’ Revs up Good Reviews

The reviews are in, and people are raving about F1. With a staggering 97% fresh fan score on Rotten Tomatoes, fans are clearly loving this movie. Critics enjoy the movie as well, with an 81% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Shaun Edwards from Fox 4 Kansas City stated the movie was like “Top Gun on wheels”, and he gave it a positive review. The critic reviews are not as high, but they are still considered good. These positive reviews tie directly into the good box office debut the film had.

Getting Close to the Finish Line

The numbers are promising for F1. If it continues on the path it is on, it is likely to be profitable. The road ahead still has some bumps and rough patches in the way. It needs to clear well over the reported $200 million to $300 million to be a success for Apple. What is known is that the fans love the movie, critics enjoy it as well, and it was Apple’s biggest box office debut. Time will tell if the film crosses the finish line in first place or crashes and burns on the final lap.

F1 is streaming in theaters today.
