‘Captain America: Brave New World’ (2025): A Review

Stars, Stripes, and Banners

Captain America: Brave New World is cataclysmic. This 2025 film was directed by Julius Onah, produced by Kevin Feige and Nate Moore, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. Captain America: Brave New World may be the beginning of one story, but it also brings back memories of old ones. The past became too tricky to conceal, and so things were hidden away and people forgotten. Favors like these aren’t just granted without a price, and the time has come to pay out old debts.

The Definition Of A True Warrior

As this film begins, the audience is able to see past events that have ushered in this new era of hope. Thaddeus Ross has become the President of the United States in this brave new world. Although his mangled past is the angle of the story, it isn’t the most important part. Everything revolves around a power, an energy, and perhaps a defining trait of the true warrior. It revolves around strength but not necessarily bravery. Each person has a broken piece of glass instead of the whole mirror. Captain America isn’t the same man he used to be. Whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is for the audience to decide. It isn’t easy for Sam Wilson to face the world thinking he’s not good enough. He does his best, but on the inside, his heart cries.

There’s an underlying fear that clouds each decision that’s made. Sometimes, there is a reason for things beyond what can be clearly seen. A person can see a great man but not how he became that man. The true tragedy lies in that truth. Untying those knots is what made Captain America: Brave New World such an intriguing story. Conspiracies that were fiction begin to become facts. Someone who hasn’t been heard from in years reappears. The very mention of his name threatens exposure. He hides in the shadows because he is abhorred. He’s now only a man in part, mashed together with something else entirely. Revenge is what he wants and what he’s going to get. Everything that happened all those years ago is now a perfect picture to be seen by all.

And If There’s A Disagreement

Enter Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford), President of the United States: he is the man to restore America to its former glory days. A long time ago, Thaddeus was a different man, and maybe he still is that man, only cloaked by a dark secret. To prove his worth to his daughter Betty (Liv Tyler) and to the people of America, he’s hired Captain America (Anthony Mackie) for a task that can be trusted to no other. The Captain also goes by another name, Sam Wilson. The two are intertwined while each is striving for its own identity. As he looks in the mirror, he wonders if he made the right choice or even if someone else made the wrong one. Sam could be great, but what exactly that means can only be determined by him.

No one else has as strong and as big a heart as he does. If Sam Wilson ever had a right-hand man, it would be Joaquin (Danny Ramirez). He’s Captain America’s partner in crime. He has an odd sense of humor but is also very caring and courageous.  He wants to be great and has a lot to learn, but that doesn’t mean that he won’t get there one day.

Samuel Stern (Tim Blake Nelson) is a big part of this film, and arguably the most important. His story stretches just as far back as Thaddeus Ross’s does. They had a relationship based on a mutual understanding, and it’s this understanding that gets them both into trouble in the future. One of the things that kicks this all off is the character Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly). He had his life taken away from him long ago, only to be used as a weapon. There were so many things he lost in life, but for some, it didn’t matter – the ends justified the means.

Exquisitely Captured

Captain America: Brave New World is all about the action right from the beginning. Every shot was taken, and every angle explored. This film was unique in its ability to capture the sounds and echoes of war. No fight, tear, or triumph escaped the eyes of the audience. It was about reflecting the reality of the situation. There were some true terrors and bewildering moments that helped to uncover the mystery of the truth. There were upheavals and times of sorrow within each character. Each person was shown in their element, and from that came their strengths and weaknesses. There was a feeling of truly experiencing this universe as if these things had really happened. The what-ifs begin to become theories spinning into different stories.

The Captain America: Brave New World (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) was created by the five-time Emmy Award winner, composer Laura Karpman. With 35 songs, it is complex. Some pieces could have been no more than a faint whisper, but just around the corner was something unexpected, bold, and daring. While moving through, sometimes things seem a bit eerie as they reflect certain moments in the film. It isn’t easy to come up with a soundtrack of this magnitude without the pressure of success. Each Marvel film has some originality to it, and this one is no exception. Laura does a great job of showcasing the film, matching the intensity of the music with the much anticipated introduction of the new Captain America in a brave new world.

It’s Never Really Over, Is It?

It’s an exciting film, with an astounding ability to combine the past, present, and future. Captain America: Brave New World isn’t just about one person or entity. It can be tricky to see at first glance, but each story is intertwined with the next. A net has been cast, for if nothing else but to keep the bad guys in.
