Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien Face Off in Raimi’s Survival Tale
20th Century Studios has released the first trailer for Send Help, Sam Raimi’s dark, witty horror thriller starring Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien.
A Humorous Battle of Wills and Wits
With its trailer released, Send Help, a Raimi-directed thriller, stars McAdams and O’Brien as Linda Liddle and Bradley Preston, coworkers who wind up stranded on a deserted island after surviving a plane crash. Liddle, an underestimated and disregarded employee, and her terrible boss, Preston, must put aside past grievances and work together to survive the unsettling, darkly humorous battle of wills and wits to stay alive. The trailer shows the quick change in dynamics after the crash, revealing how, as Deadline calls McAdams “the mild-mannered” employee asserts dominance over her boss as she becomes the person with the needed survival skills.
A Quick Turn of Tables
Wounded O’Brien shouts at McAdams, “Let’s not forget I’m your boss! You work for me,” and she responds, saying, “We’re not in the office anymore, Bradley.”
According to People, Raimi said of Mark Swift and Damian Shannon’s script for Send Help to Entertainment Weekly, “I found the two lead characters, Linda and Bradley, to be complex, human, and constantly at odds with each other in often conflicting situations. The pitch was outrageous and original, all the while tracking these two in their conflict as their power dynamic changed dramatically. I knew right away that I wanted to direct this picture.”
It’s All About Female Empowerment
Raimi described McAdams’ character as having the “story of female empowerment and transformation” to Entertainment Weekly. “What I really love about this story is that it’s an underdog tale at its core,” said the film’s director to Entertainment Weekly. “Watching a once-powerful boss find himself dependent on someone he underestimated is satisfying. Our story is universal! We need to encourage our society to treat people with respect and kindness, regardless of status. It’s especially rewarding to see our heroine, Linda, come into her own in such an unexpected environment.”
Send Help is produced by Raimi alongside Zainab Azizi under Raimi Productions, with JJ Hook (The Amateur) exec producing. Other cast includes Edyll Ismail (La Brea), Dennis Haysbert (Far from Heaven), Xavier Samuel (Elvis), Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians), Thaneth Warakulnukroh (Thai Cave Rescue), and Emma Raimi (Happy Pills).
Send Help arrives in theaters January 30, 2026.
