Not Like US (2024) Official Kendrick Lamar Music Video
Lamar Returns to the Super Bowl
The NFL, Roc Nation, and Apple Music announced on Sunday that Kendrick Lamar will perform at the 2025 Super Bowl LIX halftime show. The Super Bowl will be played on February 9 and conclude the 2024 season.
Super Bowl Halftime Shows
Headlining, or even performing at the Super Bowl, is considered one of the most prestigious honors for a music artist. Kendrick Lamar first appeared at the Super Bowl in 2022 alongside Dr. Dre, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent. Lamar’s upcoming headline spot will allow him to join the rare air of artists who’ve performed there multiple times. Gloria Estefan boasts the most appearances, playing at Super Bowls in 1992, ‘95, and ‘99. Artists who’ve performed twice include Beyoncé, Bruno Mars, Nelly, and Stevie Wonder. Despite his infamous and controversial appearance alongside Janet Jackson in 2004, Justin Timberlake was asked to return to headline in 2018. The approaching show will mark Apple Music’s second sponsorship of a 5-year deal that was struck in 2022. Apple Music’s first show, in 2023, featured Rihanna as the headliner and took place in Glendale, Arizona. The performance was praised for not including surprise and guest appearances, which have become a mainstay at the Super Bowl.
Kendrick Lamar
It’s been an eventful year for Kendrick Lamar, as he spent the late spring feuding with one of the biggest names in music, Drake. The spat between the two rap artists began as a rivalry to determine who could hold the mantle as the best active emcee. The dispute prompted each rapper to produce songs aimed at one another to see who would get the better of the exchange. Things quickly became personal as both men spoke about one another’s families and private lives. Although highly debated, Lamar was eventually dubbed the winner of the clash. His smash hit, “Not Like Us,” which resulted from the feud, is considered to have ended the dispute. Despite Drake being one of the most famous artists in the world, he’s never performed at the Super Bowl.
The Super Bowl will be broadcast next year on Fox.
