A24’s Closer For Ti West’s Trilogy Comes to Digital
Independent film company A24 has released the final film in the Ti West horror trilogy with the film MaXXXine. The film is a direct sequel to X (2022) and Pearl (2022). MaXXXine, which was released in July 2024, is now available to watch on digital on demand.
A24’s West Trilogy Finale
A24’s Ti West trilogy, also known as the X film series, are slasher films that started in 2022 with the first film, X. The three movies’ overall story centers around two characters, Maxine Minx, an adult film star, and Pearl, a psychopathic killer. The first film takes place in 1979 in a secluded cabin that is owned by Pearl and her husband, Howard. A team of filmmakers who want to create a new cinematic experience while exploring the adult film industry rent their guesthouse for the shoot. Pearl, who is jealous of the youth and angered by her own aging, begins to rampage on the young adult filmmakers. The second film takes place in 1918 and tells the story of how X’s villain, Pearl, became a killer and her dream of stardom. The final film of the trilogy is about the first film’s protagonist, Maxine Minx, and is a direct sequel to X.
The Story of MaXXXine
MaXXXine is a 2024 slasher film that tells the story of the aftermath of X and the future of Maxine Minx. The film’s official synopsis: “In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past.” The film takes place in 1985, a few years after the events of X. As the stars of the adult film industry are being targeted by a killer, the police think that the victims are those of the Night Stalker, who had been on a killing spree during the years of 1984 to 1985. As Maxine starts her work on her first horror film, the killer is set to reveal her horrifying past.
Casting And Theater Debut
MaXXXine stars Mia Goth, who played Maxine Minx in the first film, X, along with the character Pearl in the same film. Mia Goth is the only cast member from X to be returning to the trilogy. But MaXXXine hosts a talented ensemble that includes Elizabeth Debick, Halsey, Lily Collins, Moses Sumney, and Kevin Bacon. A24 released the film in July 2024 in 2,450 theaters. The final installment of the trilogy made $6.7 million domestically but worldwide has made $7.8 million during its opening weekend. The first two films in the franchise made $14.7 million worldwide during the box office run for X and Pearl, which made $9.8 million.
