A Pain in the Neck
Directed by Patrick Rea, The Night is Young stars Sara McGuire as an influencer looking to make content from bad dates. The film is shot in a found footage style and centers around vampires.
Tomato Juice
The found footage genre has long held a special place in horror, but outside of the V|H|S franchise, this particular style has failed to receive its proper due. The Night is Young, however, might change that. The teaser opens up with a set up for the central premise. McGuire’s character explains how her date went before meeting her supposed match. A montage then quickly plays out to some sinister-sounding music. From the looks of it, interested viewers will witness a night full of carnage as she and her friends are hunted down by vampire hunters. Both Dan Daly (VY) and Shawn Eric Jones (Disappeared) are set to star alongside Sarah McGuire.
Rising From the Dead
The found footage subgenre has always held an awkward place in horror. Considered by some to be more of a gimmick, there are only a handful of examples of this film style actually working outside of The Blair Witch Project. Rec and Paranormal Activity are two more examples of this subgenre working right. With The Night is Young seemingly focusing on vampires, this may end up being a fresh new take on the format. Going off of the trailer, however, it kind of feels like one of those old independent horror films that would air on the Sci-Fi channel. The Night is Young will be premiering during the Popcorn Frights Film Festival on August 10, 2024.

A lover of gore and over the top violence, no movie can make my stomach squirm. The only thing better than a bloody death scene is a well choreographed stunt. Whether it be action or horror, if it has blood in it, then I've likely already seen it. |
