The film is based on Anderson’s 13-minute black-and-white short film of the same name from 1994, starring Owen and Luke Wilson, along with Robert Musgrave. This short film was eventually picked up and expanded into a full-length feature film.

Directed by Wes Anderson, the film weaves together three different storylines centered around the final issue of the fictional Liberty, Kansas Evening Sun newspaper’s French bureau. Despite the pandemic’s impact on its theatrical run, The French Dispatch earned $46.3 million worldwide on a $25 million budget. Promotion for the film included unique pop-up events in London, Los Angeles, and New York, which were held for a limited time near the film’s release date, generating buzz and excitement among fans and critics alike. It was announced that Anderson would be writing a film that involves romance, inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic. Anderson explained, “I don’t think there would be a quarantine in the story if we weren’t experiencing it. It wasn’t deliberate… Writing is the most improvisational part of the whole process. It relies on having nothing. Asteroid City received mostly positive reviews from both critics and audiences, further solidifying Anderson’s reputation for creating distinctive and engaging films.
6. ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’ (2001)
The Royal Tenenbaums is an American comedy-drama written by Wes Anderson and co-written by Owen Wilson, marking their third collaboration following Bottle Rocket and Rushmore. The film tells the story of a boy named Atari Kobayashi, who ventures to Trash Island, also known as Isle of Dogs, to find his dog, Spots Kobayashi. With the help of a pack of dogs on the island, Atari embarks on a journey to find Spots and discover a way off the island.
The film received a limited release in the United States on March 23, 2018, followed by a worldwide release on April 13. It grossed $64.1 million globally and was praised for its animation, story, dark humor, and music. However, some viewers were displeased with the depiction of Japanese culture and people. 4. ‘Fantastic Mr. Fox’ (2009)
Fantastic Mr. Fox is a book written by Roald Dahl that was later adapted into a film by Wes Anderson. Despite its box office underperformance, the film earned significant praise, particularly for its animation style. It also received Academy Award nominations for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score.
According to Anderson, the voice recordings were mostly done outdoors. “We went out in a forest, went in an attic, and went in a stable. We went underground for some things. There was a great spontaneity in the recordings because of that.” He also planned to use real, but small, trees and sand on set. The movie was so well-liked that it earned a spot in Time magazine’s “The 25 All-Time Best Animated Films.”

Both characters find themselves in love with the same elementary school teacher, Rosemary Cross, played by Olivia Williams.
With a budget of nearly $10 million, Rushmore went on to gross between $17.1 and $19.1 million worldwide. Despite its modest budget, the film achieved notable success and was well-received by critics. Importantly, Rushmore played a crucial role in launching Jason Schwartzman’s acting career, establishing him as a prominent talent in Hollywood and solidifying Anderson’s reputation for crafting distinctive and engaging films.
