Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the upcoming sequel to the 1988 comedy-horror film Beetlejuice, has been years in the making. The newest film has had a new trailer released on July 14, which takes a sneak peek into the sequel film.
Beetlejuice: The Original Film
The film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the direct sequel to the film Beetlejuice (1988), but what is the first film about? Beetlejuice is a 1988 fantasy-comedy-horror film that was directed by Tim Burton, known for his work on films such as Disney’s Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Mars Attacks! (1996), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007), and Corpse Bride (2005). The film surrounds a recently deceased couple who call on a bio-exorcist named Beetlejuice to scare away new inhabitants of their house, since they are not allowed to leave. The film features Alec Baldwin, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jeffery Jones, Michael Keaton, and Geena Davis as the main cast members.

The newest trailer for the upcoming 2024 film, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, has revealed there is more to the franchise newcomer Jenna Ortega’s role, along with more information regarding the plot. The film takes place years after the events of the first movie. Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder), who now has a daughter, Astrid (Jenna Ortega), will need Beetlejuice’s (Michael Keaton) help to save her daughter from the underworld. Astrid is sent to the underworld after she discovers a mysterious model in the attic and opens the portal to the afterlife. The sequel film is directed by Tim Burton and written by Alfred Gough and Miles Milar. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the second film in the franchise and will be released on September 6, 2024.
Casting and Production
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has multiple cast members returning to roles that they played in the first film. Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara will be returning to their roles as Beetlejuice, Lydia Deetz, and Delia Deetz, respectively. The film also has Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafeo, and Burn Gorman joining the cast. The sequel film has been in development for many decades, with multiple scripts being written with little success. The project was shelved indefinitely by Warner Brothers just before the pandemic started, after which the studio announced the start of production for the sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
